Rick Turner

Rick Turner

Fortunate. Blessed. Thrilled.  There just aren’t enough superlatives to express how grateful we are for the ongoing support of Rick Turner, an icon of the music world. Among many other things, he spent three years (off and on) on the road with the Grateful Dead.  But what he is best known for are the decades he has spent repairing, restoring, and building stringed instruments including those for Lindsey Buckingham, the Police, the Jefferson Airplane, the Who, Led Zeppelin, the Doobie Brothers, the Youngbloods, Men at Work, Van Morrison, Ry Cooder, David Lindley, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Joni Mitchell, the Beach Boys, Ricki Lee Jones, Bela Fleck, John Mayer, and many others. In addition to decades of experience in the music industry (and a lifetime of stories), Rick will be bringing his portable ‘ukulele-building bench to the Wine Country ‘Ukulele Festival and will, over the course of the week-end, attempt to complete the ‘ukulele he started building for us four years ago! I say “attempt” because he’ll also be available to do minor repairs: set-ups, adjusting the action, dialing in intonation, putting in pick-ups, installing strap buttons, and chatting with any of the passersby…in addition to  teaching a workshop or two. Given all that, I’m not so concerned about him finishing that ‘ukulele for us.  As long it remains undone, he’ll just have to keep coming back.  And we like that. (Photo by Rob Williams)
