Andy Andrews

Best known as one of the founders of the (in)famous Ukulele Club of Santa Cruz (more than 200 strong), Andy Andrews has since retired to the Big Island but is still managing to spread the uniquely free-spirited culture of the Ukulele Club Santa Cruz from afar. And what a blessing that is. For Andy, the enduring charm of the ‘ukulele is not a stellar performance, but on participation, and the door is always wide-open for professional musicians, beginning players, and musical newbies. His favorite line from “Home on the Range?” And never is heard a discouraging word……. His ethic? Music is meant to be shared communally, rather than as a gift from a single performer to an attentive audience. “Making music with your friends,” he says, “is infinitely more pleasurable than watching someone else play music, no matter how good they are.”

Workshop

Beating the Blues

Among many other things, the irrepressible ‘ukulele pitchman Andy Andrews will teach you how to “beat the blues” with your ukulele.  Regardless of what style of music you play, having some background in the blues will give you a firm foundation that can be used to advance your playing in any genre. It is, after-all, the precursor to everything we love about music today.
